For a number of years Rachael Olley our Operations Manager was a representative on the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group Publications Committee, unfortunately due to work commitments Rachael had to step down from an active role but remains an important link between CCPA and CCLG publications Committee.
Publications for families of children with cancer were first created by the UK Children’s Cancer Study Group (UKCCSG) Siblings Project Group. The Publications Committee was established in 2005, a year before the UKCCSG merged with the Childhood Leukaemia Group to form the Children’s Cancer & Leukaemia Group.
The Committee’s brief is to develop high quality publications for families and liaise with other cancer information producing organisations such as Cancer Research UK, Macmillan and CLIC Sargent. This communication prevents unnecessary duplication of effort and enhances collaboration to enable production of valuable resources.
The Committee consists of parents, survivors and health professionals who meet quarterly to review booklets in preparation and consider ideas for future publications.
Informal feedback and constant requests for published booklets suggest the materials have plugged an information gap and are a well used resource.
Current publications can be viewed and downloaded from the CCLG website and are available free of charge at CCLG treatment centres.
