How will 2018 top the achievements of 2017?

I’m not one for looking back too much but what a year 2017 was for CCPA! In the 13 years that I’ve worked for the charity I can honestly say that it was the most successful/exhilarating/exhausting year so far! I am hugely excited by our achievements in the past year and even more excited by what is to come in 2018!

If I had to pick out highlights I would say that our two family trips to Millport Pottery and Reaseheath Zoo were very successful and allowed families to spend quality time with each other. Those of you who have children will understand just how expensive a day out in the Summer can be and we provided these at no cost to the families we support. We know that our families already have huge extra monthly costs that stem from having a child undergoing cancer treatment so it is really important to us to offer these free of charge. We could not do this without the donations and fundraising from our supporters and volunteers so thank you all for your time, support and generosity.

We have two similar trips planned in 2018 and are adding a parents-only evening out and a family Christmas party as well as monthly coffee mornings. These allow families to socialise and offer each other support which is very important to them following the devastating news of a childhood cancer diagnosis.

2017 was also a time when it seemed that our community fundraising took came into it’s own! Our first Pop Up Shop in the Guildhall in September was a massive success and looking back at this still makes me very emotional. In terms of fundraising we raised over £2000 which is phenomenal in itself but the shop was far more than that, it brought all aspects of the Stafford community together and the atmosphere was just indescribable. One customer commented to me that it was the happiest shop that she’d been in (I promptly burst into tears!).

The event was hard work for all of our volunteers but also hugely rewarding and they are keen to run it again so must have had fun too! We are planning another Pop Up Shop in the Guildhall from 13-18 March and are wondering how on earth we can better the last one, but, as always, we like a challenge so please come and see our ‘Happy Shop’ again!

Our Gold Ribbon Ball on 1st December at the Staffordshire County Showground was also an event that I and all at CCPA are rightly proud of – we enabled 200 guests to literally ‘have a ball!’ and at the same time raised over £3800 for the charity! This was another event that had such a special atmosphere that could only be felt by those that came, in fact we make ALL of our events special thanks to the hard work and efforts of our fantastic CCPA Team! If you want to find out for yourself you’ll just have to come along to our next Gold Ribbon Ball on 1st Dec 2018!

Our Pop Up shops and the Ball are just two of our events but we have a full calendar planned for 2018 starting with our Swishing Clothes Swap Event on Tuesday 13th February at a new location, the Holmcroft Youth and Community Centre, Newland Avenue, Stafford ST16 1NL doors open 7.30pm so see you there!
