Gill, has been supporting CCPA for many years and has recently playing an important part in Pop Up shop event. Here she talks about why she thinks volunteering in the shop is so much fun and valuable.
“Volunteering in the shop and helping the charity fundraise is something l find it very rewarding. It’s helping families of children on treatment: knowing that you are helping families with the devastating journey of a child on treatment.
The shop is important as it’s not only raising money but also an awareness of the help and support for families going through the journey of when a child is on treatment.
It’s also good for me as l feel a sense of purpose to be helping.
When a grandmother came to the shop she was telling me her young granddaughter had just been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL). She needed talk to someone about how she could help them. We sat down with a cup of tea. I knew what she was going through as a grandmother I’ve been there my grandson. At the age of 5 he was diagnosed with ALL he’s now a healthy 21-year-old. I felt that l had helped her to understand.
The CCPA volunteers are great and we all get on so well. Being a volunteer has helped me as make friends and have a good social life!”
